Abstract The paper considers the problem of inverse flood routing in reservoir operation strategy. aim work is to investigate possibility determining hydrograph at upstream end based on required downstream using simplified open channel flow models. To accomplish this, linear kinematic wave equation, diffusive equation and Muskingum are considered. achieve end, an solution afore mentioned equations with backward integration x direction carried out. numerical bases finite difference scheme. It shown that both these able provide satisfying results because their exceptional properties related diffusion. In paper, alternative approach solve model also presented. this it described by a convolution which involves instantaneous unit (IUH) corresponding equation. Consequently, instead partial or ordinary differential equations, integral Laguerre polynomials, used for expansion hydrograph, solved. was more reliable comparing models form equations.
